Handel’s Homemade Ice Cream To Open Seventh San Diego Location In Hillcrest

The seventh San Diego County location of Handel’s Homemade Ice Cream will open later this year in Hillcrest.

Handel's was founded in the summer of 1945 by Alice Handel, who started the company at her husband's gas station in Youngstown, Ohio, serving ice cream made using fresh fruit from her home garden. Handel’s now has more than 50 location around the United States with San Diego-based branches in Pacific Beach, Del Mar, San Marcos, Santee, Carlsbad, and a locations set to open soon in Oceanside and Chula Vista.

The newest San Diego Handel's location will open within in the space that last housed Project Juice within The Hub shopping center in Hillcrest. Like other branches, the new outpost will offer a variety of over 100 flavors of homemade ice cream and yogurt made fresh daily, one batch at a time, at each location. Local Handel's franchise owner Josh Barton also intends to open an outpost in National City in the near future.
