San Diego's Urban Kitchen Group To Open Restaurant At La Jolla's Recently-Renovated Museum Of Contemporary Art

March 28, 2022

After a four year renovation, the Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego is nearly ready to unveil its newly expanded La Jolla Campus, which includes a new 120-seat restaurant from Tracy Borkum's Urban Kitchen Group (Cucina Urbana, Cucina Sorella, Artifact at Mingei).

The upgraded Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego showcases some of the region's most extraordinary views of the Pacific Ocean and is home to a world-class contemporary art collection. Following a major four-year renovation by Selldorf Architects, the La Jolla location features expanded galleries, an art park and sculpture garden as well as several spaces available to rent for special occasions. To enhance the public experience, MCASD is launching an extensive venue rental and catering program including a new 120-seat restaurant space.

Locally owned Urban Kitchen Group has been contracted to oversee the new restaurant space, named The Kitchen @ MCASD. Opening in early summer 2022, The Kitchen @ MCASD will offer seating for up to 120 (inside and out) and robust to-go options. Urban Kitchen Group will also serve as one of four specially selected preferred caterers for private events and the museum’s exclusive beverage partner.

Over the past 27 years, Tracy Borkum's Urban Kitchen Group, which operates Cucina Urbana in Bankers Hill, Cucina Sorella in Kensington, Artifact at Mingei, and Cucina Enoteca locations in Del Mar, Irvine, and Newport Beach, has earned a reputation as a leader in the Southern California hospitality industry. Naturally blending art, culture, and hospitality, principal Tracy Borkum and Chef Partner Tim Kolanko will bring market inspired + modern coastal cooking to downtown La Jolla with the opening of The Kitchen @ MCASD.

The Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego will reopen to the public on April 9 at 700 Prospect Street in La Jolla. The Kitchen @ MCASD  is anticipated to open this July for breakfast and lunch, Wednesday through Sunday from 8am to 4pm. For more information, visit mcasd.org.
