Nolita Hall Owner Takes Over Former Civico By The Park Space In San Diego's Bankers Hill For New Restaurant Concept

April 7, 2022

Despite assertions by ownership that the restaurant would eventually reopen, Civico By The Park is no more. The prime space in San Diego's Bankers Hill has been taken over by Nolita Hall's parent company for the opening of a new bar & restaurant concept set to unveil as early as this summer.

Founded by Douglas Hamm, who also developed Lofty Coffee and Half Door Brewing, Creative House is a real estate development and investment company that began its hospitality arm with the spring 2018 opening of Nolita Hall in San Diego's Little Italy. Creative House is also working on several other projects in the area, including a collection of boutique AirBnBs and the $6.5 million, 10,000 square-foot Cedar Park bar and restaurant that has been under development in San Diego's Little Italy for more than five years. Although stalled by the pandemic, the Cedar Park restaurant is still in the works, awaiting permits which should be coming in the next few months pending the city's process.

"While Creative House is predominantly focused in commercial real estate with ownership of dozens of properties throughout San Diego, the company strategically pursues hospitality ventures that either compliment real estate it already owns or presents a unique opportunity to create something special," explained company founder Douglas Hamm. "Bankers Hill concept is still in the conceptual phase so while I can't confirm the concept, there will be a vastly different approach to the design which will result an entirely new experience for guests who have been to the space previously."

Creative House has leased the 7,000 square-foot unit that housed the PR-fueled Il Dandy/Civico By The Park restaurants for a few years before the Italian eatery permanently closed this past January. After a substantial remodel, the company plans to launch a new restaurant concept with a full bar in the Bankers Hill unit, which sits on the base floor the Manchester Financial Centre building that also houses San Diego's iconic French-hued American fusion restaurant Mister A's.

Creative House's newest restaurant is anticipated to open at some point this summer at 2550 Fifth Avenue, Unit 120, in San Diego's Bankers Hill.
