Zzan Korean Restaurant & Bar To Open New Location In San Diego's Convoy District

June 16, 2022

A second San Diego location of authentic Korean restaurant and bar ZZAN will open in the Convoy District of Kearny Mesa.

Inho Choi has owned Point Loma's 41-year-old Natural Style Chicken for the past seven years. In late 2018, Choi replicated the concept with a modernized, 1,000 square-foot version on the corner of 5th & University in the heart of Hillcrest. In 2020, Choi rebranded his Hillcrest location of Natural Style Chicken to become ZZAN, a traditional Korean restaurant and drinking establishment. Choi is also in the process of opening the first United States location of popular Korean stew chain Jomaru Gamjatang, which is expected to open late this year in the Seoul Plaza Shopping Mall on Convoy Street.

The new location of ZZAN, which means 'cheers' in Korean, will open in the space that currently houses Fusion Izakaya 52 within the Convoy Center shopping plaza in San Diego's Kearny. Like the original, the restaurant will offer an enormous menu with shareable items and Asian fusion dishes like dumplings, gyozas, Korean-style short ribs, chicken wings, fried shrimp, Gopchang-jeongol (Korean traditional beef intestine soup), stews, rice dishes, Korean fried chicken, fresh seafood, sushi, and other plates meant to be enjoyed while drinking. From the bar, expect a variety of soju and sake, including flavored varieties, as well as beer and wine.

ZZAN Convoy is anticipated to open as early as this July at 4367 Convoy Street in San Diego's Kearny Mesa. For more information, visit zzanhillcrestsd.com and check out the menu below.
