NYC-Based Shake Shack To Open First South County San Diego Location

New York City-based Shake Shack will open its sixth San Diego County location in the South County community of National City. 

Shake Shack is a critically acclaimed, modern day "roadside" burger stand that has earned a cult-like following for its menu of Angus beef burgers, chicken sandwiches, griddled flat-top dogs, frozen custard, crispy crinkle cut fries and more. Founded by celebrity chef Danny Meyer's, the first San Diego Shake Shack location opened in Westfield UTC in fall 2017 and there are now location in Mission Valley, One Paseo, Little Italy and within The Beacon La Costa in Carlsbad.

The newest San Diego County outpost will open as early as year's end within Westfield Plaza Bonita mall in National City. Another San Diego branch is also planned for the Scripps Ranch The Watermark development.

Originally founded by Danny Meyer’s Union Square Hospitality Group, which owns and operates some of New York City’s most celebrated restaurants including Union Square Cafe, Gramercy Tavern, The Modern at the Museum of Modern Art, Maialino, North End Grill, Blue Smoke, and Marta - Shake Shack started out as a food cart inside NYC's Madison Square Park in 2004 and has since pioneered the creation of a new “fine casual” category in restaurants. Shake Shack now has nearly 400 locations around the world and is continuing an aggressive expansion.
