Korean Fried Chicken Chain Don Chicken To Open San Diego Location

August 10, 2022

A Korean chicken chain with over 300 locations, Don Chicken will open its first California restaurant in San Diego.

Founded in Seoul, South Korea, Don Chicken now has more than 300 locations around South Korea, Thailand China, and Vietnam, with a previous foray into the United States that included a now-shuttered branch in the Atlanta area. Don Chicken brand is inspired by the image of the knight Don Quixote in the novel "Don Quixote of La Mancha", with the logo showing a knight riding a chicken.

Franchisee Ki Hyun Kim has taken over the space that last housed Sabor Brazilian Grill in Encinitas for the opening of California's and the United States' only Don Chicken restaurant. Expect a menu of oven baked and Korean fried chicken offered in a variety of sauces and styles, including green onion chicken, fried hot garlic chicken, spice corn baked chicken, and soy sauce fried chicken. The restaurant will also sell appetizers like spring rolls, corn cheese, and shrimp fries, as well as the popular cheese katsu. There will also be a selection of beer, wine and soft drinks.

Don Chicken is anticipated to open at some point this September at 215 South El Camino Real, Suite G, in San Diego's North County city of Encinitas.
