Los Angeles-based Malibu Farm restaurant has finally begun construction in downtown's Seaport Village, taking over the space occupied by The Harbor House for four decades.
The Port of San Diego’s multi-million dollar revitalization of Seaport Village inked its most recent partnership. Restaurant chain Malibu Farm - Founded by celebrity chef Helene Henderson and her husband, actor, film director and restauranteur John Stockwell, Malibu Farms entered a lease with the Port of San Diego in October 2020. The Seaport Village outpost will be the ninth location for Malibu Farm, which has grown from its first home as a pop-up café on the Malibu Pier in Los Angeles to full-service restaurants throughout the United States and the world, including New York City, Miami, Tokyo, and Cabo San Lucas. Malibu Farm San Diego was originally slated to begin construction in fall 2021 and open for business by summer 2022, but the project has been severely delayed and is now not expected to unveil until early 2023.
San Diego's 40-year-old Seaport Village is in the process of a $2.3 million refresher to modernize the walking retail area. New leases secured since 2020 include Mr. Moto Pizza House, Mike Hess Brewing, City Tacos, Spill The Beans Coffee, Louisiana Charlie's, a restaurant from Sam "The Cooking Guy", Old Harbor Distilling Company, Malibu's Gladstone’s and Newport Beach's Shorebird Restaurant.
Malibu Farms has just recently began construction in the 14,000 square-foot building that long housed Harbor House Restaurant, which was founded by D.E. "Butch" Bucciarelli and Louis A. "Luigi" Rezzonico, Jr. in 1980 in San Diego's Seaport Village. The parent company of Harbor House also operates sister restaurants in Seaport Village, Edgewater Grill and the now-defunct San Diego Pier Cafe. Malibu Farm's incoming, Seaport Village, waterfront locale will give way to an airy, SoCal-inspired dining destination, an ice cream & espresso bar, and a curated home goods boutique.
