San Diego's First Cannabis Consumption Lounge, Sessions By The Bay On Track For 2023 Opening

August 17, 2022

San Diego's first combined cannabis consumption lounge is in the final stages of approval and is on track for a 2023 opening.

Phase 2 of a three-part process has just concluded in San Diego's South County community of National City, paving the way for the county's first cannabis consumption lounge to open as early as next year. Husband and wife applicants Alex & Pearl Ayon are the sole cannabis consumption lounge applicants and are hoping to soon begin construction on Sessions By The Bay, a multi-level cannabis consumption lounge, retail marijuana store and eatery.

Planned for a 13,000 square-foot lot on the on the bayfront side of Interstate 5 Freeway, Sessions By The Bay must still be approved by the city council. If given the green light, expect a retail area selling a variety of cannabis products, a "social equity center", interactive art exhibits, a full food component from a third party vendors & food trucks, and a lounge area with edibles and smoking devices. No alcohol will be permitted to be served on site, but expect a menu of soft-drinks and cannabis infused beverages.
Sessions By The Bay aims to open by summer  2023 depending on the permitting process and obtaining city council approval. For more information, visit nationalcityca.gov/government/city-manager/economic-development/commercial-cannabis.
