Opening next month in San Diego's Hillcrest neighborhood is Steak & Bones, an upscale taco shop and Mexican restaurant.
Steak & Bones Tacos was born by the inspiration from Executive Chef & Founder Cesar Sanchez's travels abroad in Europe as he paid his way by working in kitchens as he worked to become an opera singer.

"I met with my fellow and proud Mexicans in different parts of the world when in need to connect with my culinary traditions, and it was always the taco that would bring deep memories of my family and nostalgia of my country," explained Sanchez. "I want to share with people my taco experience, I want my customers to feel what I experienced - to feel at home holding a warm tortilla and knowing that when in the palm of my hand, I was holding something dear to my heart."
Taking over the space that last housed Cocina Calavera on 4th Avenue in Hillcrest, Steak & Bones will offer a modern-industrial feel with touches of Mexican art, rustic brick walls, wood accents, warm lighting, newly added garage door windows to open up the space, and outdoor seating. The menu will include ribeye steak tacos, beef back ribs bone-in tacos, brisket tacos, birria tacos, lime marinated shrimp tacos, and bowls with an optional base of citrus rice, cauliflower rice, salad and all of the veggies and proteins available on the menu. Tortillas will be made to order and there will also be a selection of beer and wine with a paring suggestion.
