The veteran restaurateur behind Sammy’s Woodfired Pizza has shuttered his morning-focused Toast Gastrobrunch concept in San Diego's North County.
Sami Ladeki began his restaurant empire in 1989 with the opening of his first Sammy's Woodfired Pizza in downtown La Jolla. Ladeki also once operated Roppongi Japanese restaurant in La Jolla and had two branches of Pisco Rotisserie & Cevicheria in San Diego. After Pisco closed in Carlsbad in 2018, Ladeki replaced the Peruvian restaurant concept with brunch-inspired Toast Gastrobrunch, which opened in early 2019. Ladeki subsequently launched a similar concept dubbed Toasted Gastrobrunch in the Green Valley area of Las Vegas, which has a second branch in the process of opening in Oceanside, CA. Toast Gastrobrunch closed in Carlsbad without any announcement other than to promote the opening of the Oceanside offshoot, which unveils on November 1.
"We found a much better location & wanted to stay open for dinner!", explained on representative from Toast Gastrobrunch on their reason for the closure in Carlsbad. "We will be serving the same menu with dinner options and new menu items!"
Toasted Oceanside will have all the brunch favorites from Toast Gastrobrunch (formerly in Carlsbad). Happy Hour begins with shareables and other items at 50% off until 6pm. Then Sammy’s Dinner menu will be served from 6-9pm, which will have new specialties including fan favorites like the Chopped Chicken Salad, Mini Duck Tacos and the pizzas that made the company famous. There will be new additions to enhance the menu, such as an octopus dish, a roasted lamb shank entrée, and lobster orzotto. The bar will showcase crafted brunch cocktails by day with bottomless mimosas, and a dinner menu to include many specialty cocktails, beers, and a curated California wine list.
Toast Gastrobrunch was sited at 5970 Avenida Encinas in San Diego's North County community of Carlsbad. There is no word who is taking over the space. For more information, visit toastgastrobrunch.com.
