Handel’s Homemade Ice Cream To Open In San Diego State University College Area

December 22, 2022

The ninth San Diego County location of Handel’s Homemade Ice Cream will open later this year in the San Diego State University College Area.

Handel's was founded in the summer of 1945 by Alice Handel, who started the company at her husband's gas station in Youngstown, Ohio, serving ice cream made using fresh fruit from her home garden. Handel’s now has more than 50 location around the United States with San Diego-based branches in Pacific Beach, Del Mar, San Marcos, Santee, Carlsbad, National City, Oceanside, and Chula Vista.

The newest San Diego Handel's location will open on the base floor of the Topaz Apartment student housing building near San Diego State University. Like other branches, the new outpost will offer a variety of over 100 flavors of homemade ice cream and yogurt made fresh daily, one batch at a time, at each location. Local Handel's franchise owner Josh Barton will oversee this location.

Handel’s is anticipated to open in late 2023 at 5824 Montezuma Road, Suite 130, in San Diego's College Area. For more information visit handelsicecream.com.
