P.F. Chang's Offshoot Pei Wei Asian Kitchen Permanently Closes Last Remaining San Diego Location

January 11, 2023

P.F. Chang's-founded casual Pan-Asian and Chinese cuisine offshoot Pei Wei Asian Kitchen has shuttered its last remaining San Diego location.

Founded as Pei Wei Asian Diner in 2000 in Scottsdale, AZ, by P. F. Chang's China Bistro, the fast casual restaurant chain offers a quick service menu of Pan-Asian and Americanized Chinese cuisine. By 2010, the company had 168 locations primarily in California, Texas, Arizona and Florida. Pei Wei Asian Diner opened its Westfield Mission Valley-adjacent restaurant in San Diego in 2007. In 2019, the Pei Wei Mission Valley branch closed for several days after San Diego health inspectors found a cockroach infestation inside the restaurant.

The Pei Wei location at 1025 Camino De La Reina in Mission Valley has permanently closed after the parent company was unable to come to agreeable terms with the building's landlord. There is no word what will take over the restaurant space.
