San Diego Pizzeria Named On Yelp's List Of Top 100 Pizza Spots

January 23, 2023

A relatively new San Diego pizza restaurant has been named to Yelp's list of Top 100 Pizza Spots in the U.S. and Canada.

Online crowdsourced-reviews aggregator Yelp today published a list of the Top 100 Pizza Spots in U.S. and Canada, and only one San Diego restaurant was included. Cucina Caprese, which replaced Devine Pastabilities in the Midway District of San Diego's Point Loma just last fall, was listed #88 on Yelp's top pizza list. The restaurant currently has a perfect five stars on Yelp with over 250 reviews.

"We searched all through the US and Canada to find the best spots to savor a slice, whether you prefer thin-crust or deep-dish, red or white sauce, dozens of toppings or just a dusting of cheese," read Yelp's post about its top pizza list. "Several pizza spots, like #1-ranked Sapori Di 786 Degrees in Pasadena, California, are beloved for baking their pies in a wood-fired oven imported from Italy. Others, like Toni’s Detroit Style Pizza in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina (#9), are paying homage to the square, blue steel pans that historically held automotive parts in Motor City before becoming a vehicle for cooking crispy pizza."

Owned by Derya Ozbey with a menu executed by Italian-born chef Giuseppe Monaco, Cucina Caprese has been a fixture at local farmers markets and area pop-ups for nearly a decade. Last year, the company signed a lease to take over the space that long housed Devine Pastabilities (Torpasta) within Nordic Village Shopping Center in the Midway District of Point Loma. Cucina Caprese serves a lengthy menu centered around traditional Neapolitan pizza made with seasonal, local and organic ingredients, San Marzano tomatoes, meats, cheeses and extra virgin olive oil all imported from Italy. The restaurant also serves other Italian comfort foods, antipasti, salad, pasta, entrees and desserts, as well as a curated wine list and a selection of beer.

Cucina Caprese is located at 3545 Midway Drive, Suite E, in San Diego's Point Loma. For more information, visit
