Santa Clarita-Based Wicked Chicken To Open In San Diego's East Village

January 21, 2023

A hot chicken swap is taking place in San Diego's East Village. The space that last housed Corner Chicken (and Cafe Chloe before that) will soon become the third California location of Santa Clarita-based Wicked Chicken.

Wicked Chicken was founded in Santa Clara, CA, in September 2011 by Matt McClean, who wanted to share his love of chicken wings and spicy sauces with fellow students at his alma mater Santa Clara University. In March of 2019 McClean partnered with his old college buddy Matt Reeser to bring the Wicked Chicken experience to Santa Clarita, CA. As part of an expansion plan that includes growing the company by more than 20 additional locations over the next four years, Reeser recently signed a lease for the East Village unit previously occupied by Tajima's short lived sister-concept Corner Chicken (and once-beloved Cafe Chloe) for a the first Southern California branch of Wicked Chicken.

Wicked Chicken will offer a sports bar vibe and serve a large menu of chicken wings, tenders, strips, chicken & waffles, sandwiches, burgers, salads, nachos, and sides, as well as a strong focus on craft beer. The restaurant also will offer its popular Wicked Challenge, where daring patrons try to eat 10 of Wicked's spiciest wings and if they complete the challenge, they receive an exclusive coin redeemable for future discounts.

Wicked Chicken aims to open by early March at 721 Ninth Avenue in San Diego's East Village. For more information, visit wickedchickenwings.com.
