From a catering company on a trailer to a custom built food truck, Caliano has continued to evolve and has opened a brick-and-mortar NYC-style pizzeria in San Diego's South County.
Chef Mario Maruca has operated Caliano food truck around San Diego for many years years. He was also once a founding partner at The Friendly, but has since sold his interest in the North Park-based pizzeria. Maruca also opened Cafe Califas Italian restaurant in San Diego's Barrio Logan in spring 2022, but closed the restaurant a short time later.
Maruca has now opened Caliano Pizza within a small retail plaza off Brandywine Avenue in Chula Vista. Expect a menu of New York City-inspired pizza available by the slice or whole pie. The restaurant also offers several sandwiches, including, meatball, chicken parm, a cheesesteak, a chopped cheese, and a pair of burgers, as well as buffalo wings, fries and two salads.
