San Diego's 9-year-old Fall Brewing Company is in the process of taking over the 50,000+ square-foot Miramar-based brewing facility previously occupied by Ballast Point parent company Kings & Convicts brewery and Saint Archer Brewing before that.
Co-owner and once-upon-a-time head-brewer Ramon Astamendi opened Fall Brewing in a former auto repair shop in a quiet stretch of North Park in November 2014. The company quickly gained a loyal following due to its creative artwork, community-focused tasting rooms, and a solid core craft beer lineup, which includes favorites like Plenty for All Pilsner, Green Hat IPA, and 2AM Bike Ride (a coffee and vanilla bean stout made with Dark Horse coffee). Graphic designer to the stars, David Lively, and Premier Stainless Systems founder Robert Soltys eventually took an ownership interest in Fall Brewing and are now managing the company, allegedly ousting founding brewer and co-owner Astamendi from having any control over operations. In mid-2021, Fall Brewing opened a new tasting room dubbed The Golden Rhino Room in San Diego's South Park.
Fall Brewing is in the process of taking over the 57,000 square-foot property last occupied by Kings & Convicts, who took the space over from Saint Archer Brewing in early 2022 and exited the facility earlier this year. The brewery building previously contained a 40-barrel brewhouse, 5-barrel pilot system, cellar and canning line, which would help Fall greatly expand its operations. Once the transfer is complete, Fall Brewing will make the Miramar building its new brewing headquarters with an onsite tasting room. There is no timeline on when Fall will open in the space, but it is expected to be as early as this summer. In the meantime, visit the original brewhouse at 4542 30th Street in North Park.
