Rouleur Brewing Company Announces Upcoming Closure Of Tasting Room, Cafe & Eatery In San Diego's North Park

April 20, 2023

Carlsbad-based Rouleur Brewing Company has announced the impending closure of its tasting room, eatery and coffee house in San Diego's North Park.

Following more than a decade of home brewing, Rawley Macias opened bicycle-themed Rouleur Brewing in H.G. Fenton’s Brewery Igniter space in San Diego's North County community of Carlsbad in 2016. In 2021, Macias secured a lease on the 1,700 square foot space that previous housed the short-lived Belgian Beer and Waffle restaurant on University Avenue near The Observatory theater overlooking the North Park sign. Upon opening in September 2021, Rouleur Brewing's North Park location offered a menu of American comfort food designed by consulting chef Tyson Blake, a co-owner of O'Brien's Pub in Kearny Mesa and West Coast Smoke and Tap House in La Mesa.

"Unfortunately, we have voluntarily decided to cease operations of our North Park Taproom and Kitchen," read a post on Rouleur's social media. "This was, by far, the most challenging decision I have had to make as a business owner. When it came down to it, the performance of our North Park location did not give us confidence that it was wise to keep it going in the current financial climate. We opened that location in September 2021, and have made some great memories. However, as a business owner, you need to constantly reassess and, for us, this location simply did not work out the way we envisioned it to."

Rouleur Brewing will close in North Park after end of service this Saturday, April 22. The company intends to assist in the search for a new proprietor who will be able to launch a concept that "suits North Park's needs."

Rouleur Brewing's tasting room and restaurant is located at 2899 University Avenue in San Diego's North Park neighborhood. For more information, visit rouleurbrewing.com.
