San Diego's Smokin J's BBQ Planning Huge Bar & Restaurant For Gaslamp Quarter

April 5, 2023

San Diego's Smokin J's BBQ is planning a huge new bar & restaurant for the heart of the Gaslamp Quarter, opening later this year in the space previously occupied by Suckerfree Southern Plate & Bar.

After a couple years perfecting their trade with a traveling barbecue pop up, brothers Jeremy and Joshua George opened Smokin J’s BBQ in San Diego's Poway neighborhood in December 2019. This past February, the team opened their second location within the 3,000 square-foot shared space that also houses Serpentine Cider and Lost Cause Meadery in Miramar.

Smokin J's newest location will open in the heart of the Gaslamp, taking over the 3,814 square-foot space that last housed Suckerfree Southern Plate & Bar. Expect an expanded menu of classic barbecue staples, including slow smoked brisket, ribs, pulled pork, smoked jackfruit, pork belly, barbecue sandwiches, and burgers, as well as scratch made sides like smothered Cajun fries, chicken wings, smoked succotash, shishito pepper bites, brisket chili, and rotating specials. There will also be a menu of draft beer, wine, and other hard and soft beverages.

The newest Smokin J’s BBQ is expected to open at some point this summer at 751 Fourth Avenue in San Diego's Gaslamp. For more information, visit smokinjsrealbbq.com.
