San Diego Chinese Food Hotspot Minh Ky Under New Ownership

September 24, 2023

The owners of San Diego Chinese food destination Minh Ky have announced they have sold the City Heights-based restaurant after nearly 20 years of ownership.

"After nearly 19 years, my wife Kim and I are announcing our retirement from owning Minh Ky Chinese Restaurant," wrote owner Phat Vuong. "Our last day will be October 2, 2023, when the restaurant will transition to new management. We want to thank all our loyal customers and our amazing team. Together, we have served and enjoyed countless meals, bringing together families, friends and communities, in a way only the best food can, and we take delight in knowing we played a part in creating lifelong memories for so many of you."

Husband-and-wife Phat and Kim Vuong opened Ming Ky restaurant within a small retail plaza in San Diego's University Heights 2004. The restaurant quickly became a destination for its menu of traditional Chinese dishes, including a large variety of soups, noodle dishes, porridge, and entrees. Starting on October 3, the restaurant will be in the hands of Thinh Phan and Tuan Nguyen.

"This is a major milestone in the lives of my wife and I but retirement is bittersweet," continued Vuong. "Although we will miss seeing our amazing customers, it is time for us to take a step back and reflect on the many joys we have experienced over the years, and spend more time with our loved ones.
Myself and our family will continue to operate our other location, Dumpling Inn on Convoy Street, where we will continue to greet every customer with a smile, so please come say 'hi'. Thank you again for an amazing 19 years."

The Vuong's continue to operate Dumpling Inn & Shanghai Saloon in San Diego's Kearny Mesa neighborhood. Dumpling Inn is mostly operated by the Vuong's daugthers, Sandy and Priscila.

Minh Ky is located at 4644 El Cajon Boulevard in San Diego's City Heights area. For more information, visit minhkysd.com.
