FIRST LOOK: Cocino De Barrio Opens In San Diego's North County

October 29, 2023

Cocina De Barrio, an Oaxaca-inspired Mexican restaurant, has expanded its presence in San Diego with the opening of its third location, now serving North County residents.

In November 2019, Executive Chef and co-owner Jose J. Flores opened the first Cocina de Barrio restaurant in San Diego's Hillcrest community. In its nearly four year tenure, the all-day eatery has received rave reviews for its menu of Oaxacan-style Mexican cuisine. A second Cocina de Barrio opened last year in the space that previously housed a Swami's Cafe on West Point Loma Boulevard in the Midway area of Point Loma. Flores also recently opened Esca Blu modern Italian restaurant on Fifth Avenue in Hillcrest.

The third San Diego branch of Cocina de Barrio has unveiled in the 3,600 square-foot space previously occupied by Lumberyard Tavern & Grill within the Lumberyard Shopping Center in Encinitas. The restaurant open only for brunch on the weekends with dinner Monday through Saturday. Expect offerings like tlayudas "Oaxacan pizza", enfrijoladas fried tortillas, tacos on hand-pressed tortillas, tamales, and a multitude of moles, as well as a full mezcal bar with cocktails, beer, Micheladas and wine.

Cocina De Barrio is now open at 967 South Coast Highway 101, Suite B101, in San Diego's North County community of Encinitas. For more information, visit eatcocinadebarrio.com.
