Kiko’s Place Mexican Mariscos Concept Opening Brick-And-Mortar Taqueria In Downtown San Diego

November 20, 2023

After over 40 years in business, Kiko's Place will go from a roving food truck to a brick-and-mortar restaurant with the opening of its first full-scale taqueria in downtown San Diego.

Kikos Place was originally founded in Baja California's San Felipe in 1983, and many speculate the original location was the inspiratioon for Ralph Rubio to open the first Rubio's location in San Diego. Started by Francisco Escamilla, who was better known as "Kiko, The Seafood King," the concept eventually moved to Chula Vista in 2000 and has been operating several food trucks around San Diego for the past two decades. Kiko's is now operated by Francisco's children, Dulce and Xavier.

The first brick-and-mortar location of Kiko's Place will soon open in the space that last housed Coal Bros. Taqueria on C Street in downtown San Diego. Expect a menu of Baja-style seafood in all forms, including tacos, quesadillas, burritos, ceviches, soups and more.

Kiko's Place is anticipated to open soon at 407 C Street in Downtown San Diego. For more information, visit seafoodkikosplace.com and check out the sample menu below.
