Taking over the space previously occupied by Toscana Cafe & Wine Bar in San Diego's Gaslamp Quarter is Houston TX Hot Chicken, a fried chicken restaurant chain with more than a dozen locations.
Founded in Las Vegas, NV, in 2021 by Edmond Barseghian, Houston TX Hot Chicken now has 14 locations around Nevada, Texas, Arizona, California, Washington and Utah. The fast-casual restaurant chain offers a menu centered around fried chicken sandwiches and tenders with spice levels ranging from "No Spice" to "Houston We Have a Problem," which requires the customer to sign a waiver before consuming.
The first San Diego outpost of Houston TX Hot Chicken will open in 2024 in the space that long housed Toscana Cafe & Wine Bar in the heart of San Diego's Gaslamp Quarter. In addition to never-frozen fried chicken tenders and sandwiches, the menu will also offer fries, salads, waffles, cookies, house made lemonades, milkshakes and a selection of beer. The new location will be managed by franchisees Christian and Melissa Couch.
