Global Restaurant Chain Nobu Opening New Location At San Diego's Historic Hotel Del Coronado

January 26, 2024

A global restaurant chain specializing in upscale Japanese cuisine, Nobu is opening a new San Diego location at the historic Hotel Del Coronado.

In 1987, Japanese chef Nobu Matsuhisa opened his eponymous restaurant Matsuhisa in Los Angeles. The following year, actor Robert De Niro visited the restaurant and eventually became a regular customer. After trying to convince Matsuhisa to partner with him on the opening of a new restaurant for several years, De Niro finally convinced Nobu to open a restaurant in New York City and the duo unveiled the first Nobu in Tribeca in 1994. The company now has more than 50 restaurants spanning the globe, including a branch in San Diego's Gaslamp Quarter, and over 30 hotels dotted around the world.

A new, 3,700 square-foot location of Nobu Japanese restaurant is being installed in the beachfront space that long housed Sheerwater inside San Diego's 136-year-old Hotel Del Coronado. Expect the expansive former Sheerwater space to receive an opulent renovation and offer a menu of Nobu's famous sushi, Japanese appetizers and entrees, including Nobu's signature black cod with miso dish. There will also be a full bar with cocktails, beer, wine and sake.

Nobu is anticipated to open by late 2024 to early 2025 at 1500 Orange Avenue in the San Diego city of Coronado. For more information, visit noburestaurants.com.
