One of Tijuana's most popular taco shops, Tacos El Franc is finally opening a San Diego location.
Founded as a cart in 1996 by Javier Valdez, Tacos El Franc is now considered one of Tijuana's top taqueria's. The eatery always has a line for its made-to-order tacos made with cuts of carne asada and spit-roasted adobada and was recently featured on Netflix's Taco Chronicles.
At one point, someone unrelated to the brand was attempting to hijack the goodwill of the Tijuana mainstay and open a Tacos El Franc (by name only) in downtown San Diego, but that was nipped in the bud. Now, the company is taking over the space currently occupied by Funcky Fries & Burgers at Westfield Plaza Bonita Mall in National City to open a San Diego branch of Tacos El Franc.
Like the original location, expect the delicious scent of a gigantic, skewered trompo of adobada marinated pork to draw in crowds of hungry patrons when this spot swings open. The menu will include an array of grilled tacos on handmade corn tortillas, tortas, quesadillas and mulitas, with the addition of new items like pozole & menudo soups for those weekend hangovers and burritos to give the spot that San Diego style. Tacos El Franc San Diego will also serve a lineup of beer, micheladas, sangria and Mexican sodas.
Tacos El Franc is expected to open in early summer 2024 at 3030 Plaza Bonita Road, Suite# 1108, in San Diego's South Bay. For more information, visit tacoselfranc.com.
