The Heights Closes In San Diego's Little Italy After Only Six Months In Business

January 5, 2024

The Heights bar & restaurant has closed in San Diego's Little Italy after only six months in business but will soon be replaced by a new dining concept called Roman Wolves Cucina Romana.

Last spring, San Diego Dining Group secured leases on two Little Italy properties, the former Cafe Gratitude building and the space previously occupied by Carruth Cellars Wine Garden, both sited less than a half mile from one another on Kettner Boulevard. Complementing the historic themes of Little Italy's neighboring Piazza Pescatore, or ‘fisherman’s square’, The Height opened last summer in the 4,000 square-foot space on the base floor of the Broadstone Little Italy that occupied Cafe Gratitude for more than seven years before the restaurant shuttered in January 2023

The Heights has shuttered after only a short run and the space wil soon be rebranded and redesigned by San Diego Dining Group to become Roman Wolves Cucina Romana, an Italian bar & restaurant that may include an onsite speakeasy. While details are still in development, Roman Wolves is expected to offer a menu centered around modern Italian shareable plates, specifically Roman cuisines, complimented by a bar serving beer, wine, and cocktails made with low ABV "spirits". The restaurant will be operated by Antonino Cusimano with a kitchen helmed by Chef Enrico de Santis.

San Diego Dining Group is the product of Sicilian-born chef Vincenzo Loverso, who also operates such local dining concepts as Greystone The Steakhouse, Osetra The Fishhouse, Osteria Panevino, Saltwater, Rusticucina, The Butcher's Cut, Breakfast & Bubbles, Allegro, Farmer's Table, InPasta, Zama and Truffle Neighborhood Cucina in North Park. Other partners in some of San Diego Dining Group's establishments include Antonino Cusimano, Alberto Mestre, and Marco Provino.

Roman Wolves Cucina Romana is anticipated to open in early 2024 at 1980 Kettner Boulevard in San Diego's Little Italy. For more information, visit romanwolves.com
