Knotty Barrel Offshoot Opening In Former Plan 9 Alehouse In San Diego's North County

March 30, 2024

The team behind longtime San Diego neighborhood bar & grill, Knotty Barrel, will soon open a new concept in the space that last housed Plan 9 Alehouse in North County.

Founded in San Diego's East Village in 2011, Knotty Barrel is a neighborhood tavern concept that added an inhouse brewery, tasting room, and beer garden in 2016. In 2018, the company opened a second area outpost in Rancho Penasquitos.

The owner of Knotty Barrel Rancho Penasquitos, James Thorp, will open a new concept later this year in the space that long housed Plan 9 Alehouse in downtown Escondido. Although little information is currently available about the new bar and restaurant the space will offer a full bar, lengthy draft beer list, and an upscale tavern menu of appetizers, burgers, sandwiches and entrees. The North County branch will also offer a weekend brunch.

Knotty Barrel Ranch Penasquitos' new bar & restaurant concept is expected unveil by year's end at 155 East Grand Avenue in San Diego's North County city of Escondido. For more information, visit knottybarrelpq.com.
