Steamy Piggy Team To Bring New Ramen Eatery To San Diego's Pacific Beach

June 27, 2024

From the team behind Steamy Piggy, Formoosa, Flama Llama, Viet-Nom and Bok Bok Dok restaurants comes Oi Shiba, a Japanese ramen eatery opening soon in San Diego's Pacific Beach.

In 2017, Franklin Chou-Chan launched dumpling-focused Chinese restaurant Steamy Piggy in the plaza that houses the original Tajima off bustling Convoy Street in San Diego's Kearny Mesa. In 2022, Chou-Chan unveiled Formoosa Tawaiianese restaurant in the Kearny Mesa plaza that also houses RakiRaki and O’Brien’s Pub, then launched Flama Llama Latin American eatery, also off Convoy. Last year, he opened Bok Bok Dok in the space that long housed Embargo Grill/Little Cay OB within Midway Towne Center in Point Loma. Chou-Chan's most recent restaurant opening came earlier this year when he brought VietNom Vietnamese-fusion restaurant to San Diego's University City.

Chou-Chan's next project is opening Oi-Shiba restaurant in the space that last housed San Diego Sliders Company within Clock Tower Plaza in Pacific Beach. Named after the shiba inu dog breed and the Japanese word for "delicious," the restaurant will offer a menu featuring modern takes on ramen noodle soup. Expect a half dozen ramen options, side dishes like chicken karaage and fried octopus takoyaki balls, and specialty drinks ranging from Hojicha milk tea to matcha lattes and sparkling yuzu lemonade.

Oi Shiba Ramen will soft open on Friday, June 27 at 909 Grand Avenue, Suite 1, in San Diego's Pacific Beach. For more information, visit oishiba.com.
