San Diego-based natural foods grocer Jimbo’s Naturally is opening a sprawling new grocery store location in Scripps Highlands.
Founded by Jim "Jimbo" Someck in 1984 with a since-closed location in San Diego's North Park, Jimbo's Naturally specializes in local, organic produce and non-GMO products. Someck got his start in the grocery industry at 19 years of age working at Ocean Beach's People's Food Store.
The modern grocery currently has four locations with grocery stores sited in Carmel Valley, Carlsbad, Escondido, and 4S Ranch, as well as a branch in development set to open in 2026 in what will soon become The Row at Civita in Mission Valley. The company previously had a store in Horton Plaza in downtown San Diego, but that branch shuttered in late 2020 following a two year legal battle with the property's then-owner Stockdale Capital Partners.
Jimbo's parent company has now leased 25,000 square-feet of property within part of the incoming Watermark development being constructed off I-15 at Scripps Poway Parkway in Scripps Highlands. The space was previously scheduled to house a Whole Foods Market, but that deal fell through. Construction of the new Jimbo's is anticipated to start in 2025, with the grand opening planned for 2026. Sudberry Properties, The Watermark’s developer, will build the store."As we celebrate our 40th anniversary, we are excited to add a Jimbo's to Scripps Ranch and become part of the very fabric of community life," noted Jim "Jimbo" Someck. "Our long tradition of healthy organic foods and community service will complement Scripps Ranch’s vibrant, nature-loving atmosphere."
The Watermark is a mixed-use development combining 445,000 square-feet of office space with over 335,000 square-feet of shopping, dining, entertainment and a 140-room Element hotel by Westin. Prior to the pandemic, it was reported that Cucina Enoteca, Sephora, The Lot Luxury Cinema, Shake Shack, Pacific Catch Fish House, Urban Plates, Mikko Sushi, Frost Gelato, Cava Grill and Sur La Table would also be opening locations as part of the 35-acre community and shopping destination.
