Last Location Of The Original Sab-E-Lee Under Original Ownership Has Been Sold In San Diego's Rancho Penasquitos

July 11, 2024

A longtime favorite destination for Thai cuisine in San Diego, the last remaining location of The Original Sab-E-Lee under original ownership has been sold.

The Original Sab-E-Lee was first founded by Don Runowski in 2008 in San Diego's Linda Vista neighborhood and quickly became a destination for its menu of authentic Thai dishes. A second area branch was opened in Rancho Penasquitos in late 2012. In 2015, the original restaurant moved to Linda Vista Shopping Mall plaza and the previous outpost was rebranded to become a new concept dubbed Thai Papaya, which closed amidst the pandemic.

In 2022, The Original Sab-E-Lee's Linda Vista location was sold to Tanogkiat Jinatongthai, Pajarawadee Sarthongpim and Pimpun Charoensrichai, who operate Di-Chan Thai Food restaurant in Clairemont. The new owners rebranded the concept to become a new Thai restaurant called Zab Linda.

The Original Sab-E-Lee location in Rancho Penasquitos Towne Center has now been sold to Supapan Sotho and Chanyanut Wannaspoha, who previously operated Thai Papaya in the space that housed the first Sab-E-Lee in Linda Vista. There is no word on whether the location will change names or continue to operate as is.

The Original Sab-E-Lee is located at 13223 Black Mountain Road, Suite 2, in San Diego's Rancho Penasquitos neighborhood. For more information, visit originalsab-e-lee.com.
