Tender Hooligan is a record store, bar, café, and listening lounge opening later this summer in San Diego's South Bay.
"Tender Hooligan is more than a place to buy records or enjoy a drink - it's a community hub where music, design, and culture intersect," said Mario Lucio, VP, Co-Creative Director, and Operations Director at Tender Hooligan. "Our goal is to craft a space that feels both new and nostalgic, offering guests a unique blend of comfort and style."
Tender Hooligan will offer a one-of-a-kind atmosphere where music aficionados of all ages can immerse themselves in vinyl, savor artisanal beverages, and unwind in an elegantly crafted space. The venue’s design concept pays tribute to Finnish-American architect and industrial designer Eero Saarinen's style with its clean lines and functional beauty, while integrating Japanese design elements. Drawing inspiration from Euro mod culture, post-punk fashion, and Japanese aesthetics, Tender Hooligan will offer a visually striking and immersive experience that will also spotlight local and international DJs.
"We recognized a gap in the community based on our personal experiences," said Henio Hernandez, President, Co-Creative Director, and IT Manager of Tender Hooligan. "As millennials raising our families, we found limited options that catered to all ages. Having grown up in Chula Vista in the '90s, we cherished the all-ages venues for live music and the record stores that were part of our lives. This inspired us to give back to our neighborhood by creating a space where everyone can come together and enjoy."
The Tender Hooligan café will offer a diverse range of non-alcoholic beverages, along with unique sake cocktails and a curated selection of craft beers. Their food menu will blend Mediterranean and Japanese flavors, offering an unconventional take on the traditional Izakaya experience.
