San Diego Italian food destination Civico 1845 is expanding into Los Angeles with the impending opening of Civico 2064.
From the Gallo family - Eugenio and brothers Dario & Pietro, who hail from the city of Cosenza in the Calabria region of Southern Italy - Civico 1845 (pronounced CHEE-vee-ko) opened in San Diego's Little Italy in June 2015. The Italian restaurant, which offers a huge array of vegan options, has been packing the house and keeping hungry diners lining up at the door to get a taste of its expansive array of scratch-made pastas, breads, entrees and desserts.
In May 2019, the Gallos opened its second area restaurant, an upscale, 7,000 square-foot "Calabria meets San Diego" fusion restaurant named Il Dandy in partnership with the with father and son chefs Antonio and Luca Abbruzzino of Italy's Michelin-starred Ristorante Abbruzzino. In 2020, Il Dandy was rebranded to become Civico By The Park, which ultimately closed in early 2022 and is now leased by the team behind Little Italy's Nolita Hall. The Civico team also recently took over the neighboring space that long housed Love & Aesthetics to open a pizzeria concept which is expected to unveil in early 2025. Earlier this year, a branch of the Italian government honored Civico 1845 as "ambassadors of Italian cuisine" at an event held in Las Vegas.
Civico 2064 will offer a similar menu of authentic Italian cuisine as the original San Diego branch, including about 40% of the menu devoted to plant-based dishes. Expect an array of antipasti appetizer options, salads, homemade pasta, and italian entrees, as well as desserts, wine and beer.
Civico 2064 will open on Tuesday, July 30 at 2064 Hillhurst Avenue in the Los Feliz neighborhood of Los Angeles. For more information, visit civico1845.com.
