Convoy District's The Pad Thai Stand has opened a new location in the quaint space that last housed Yum Zab in San Diego's Pacific Beach.
Nattapon Ranma Thitathan started The Pad Thai Stand as a farmers market pop-up in 2017 before opening his first brick-and-mortar restaurant within Ashford Center in San Diego's Kearny Mesa in early 2019. As the name suggests, the restaurant specializes in regional pad thai styles from different parts of Thailand.
The Pad Thai Stand is testing the waters and operating sporadic soft opening hours in the tiny unit that last housed Yum Zab and Rhythm’s Chicken and Waffles before that. From the menu, expect four different styles of Pad Thai that can be customized with extra ingredients, proteins and sauces. The 'Old-Style' Pad Thai has black soy sauce, long beans, yellow bean paste and pork rinds. The 'Southern' Pad Thai is made with roasted coconut cream, crispy shallots and peanuts.
Focused more on to-go dining, the eatery has a window ordering system and only a couple tables outside. In addition to the new Pacific Beach location, Chef Ranma wants to expand the concept around San Diego and beyond.
The Pad Thai Stand is located at 136 Garnet Avenue in San Diego's Pacific Beach. For more information, visit padthaistand.com.
