A branch of Berkeley-based bargain supermarket chain Grocery Outlet is set to open in San Diego's Pacific Beach.
Founded as Cannery Sales by James Read in San Francisco in 1946, Grocery Outlet's business model was originally based on reselling government surplus food products. The "extreme-value" grocer has since grown to more than 400 location and offers bargain prices on brand name merchandise. A third-generation family-led company, the majority of Grocery Outlet's stores are independently operated by locally based, married couples.
The newest area Grocery Outlet location will open in the 12,365 square-foot space that last housed a Crunch Fitness (and Trader Joe's before that) on Garnet Avenue in the heart of Pacific Beach. Like other area outposts, the new Grocery Outlet will sell name-brand and private-label groceries, including fresh meat, dairy, produce, bread, frozen foods, organic items, beauty care, and pantry & household staples, as well as beer, wine and liquor.
Grocery Outlet is renowned for offering a large array of groceries at discounted prices, making it a valuable addition to the retail landscape of Pacific Beach, especially as food costs continue to rise. They were represented in this transaction by Dave Hagglund of CBRE. The lease is for a term of 132 months, with a total lease consideration of $3,708,797.
Grocery Outlet is anticipated to open by early-2025 at 1211 Garnet Avenue in San Diego's Pacific Beach. For more information, visit groceryoutlet.com.
