Breakfast Republic Closing One San Diego Location After Nearly A Decade In Business

September 20, 2024

A San Diego location of the popular breakfast chain, Breakfast Republic, is set to close permanently after nearly a decade of serving the community.

Swedish native Johan Engman made his mark on the San Diego breakfast scene when he opened the first Fig Tree Café in Pacific Beach in 2008. Since then, his Rise & Shine Restaurant Group has rapidly expanded, including the wildly popular Breakfast Republic concept, now boasting eighteen locations. Despite the success of Breakfast Republic, which started in North Park in 2015, Engman's ventures have seen a mix of outcomes. His North Park-based Breakfast Company, which launched in 2019, shuttered within a year, though other locations, such as Gaslamp Breakfast Company and Mission Valley Breakfast Company, remain in operation.

After seven successful years, the Breakfast Republic in Carmel Valley’s The Village at Pacific Highlands Ranch will close its doors for good at the end of September. There is no official word on the reason for the closure, but it marks the end of an era for this particular location, which has been a staple of the retail plaza.

The Breakfast Republic at 6025 Village Way, Suite F101, will officially cease operations after its final day of service on September 29. For more information on the restaurant and other locations, visit breakfastrepublic.com.
