San Diego native Odie O'Connor is set to debut his new venture, Odie’s Pizza, in the North County city of Oceanside, CA, marking his return to the city where he grew up. O'Connor's journey into the pizza world started in Portland, OR, where he opened his first business, Boxcar Pizza, a plant-based, Detroit-style pizzeria. His success in Portland, including overcoming significant challenges, such as a food truck fire and managing a business during the pandemic, gave him the experience and drive to open his second pizzeria in his hometown.
Odie’s Pizza will open in partnership with Blacktop Restaurant Group, the company behind well-known brands like Board & Brew sandwich shop, Casero Taqueria, and Pure Taco. The incoming pizzeria will take over the pier-adjacent space that last housed Sublime Tap House and serve Neapolitan and New York-inspired pizza made with 48-hour, cold-fermented sourdough.
The menu at Odie's will center around 16-inch New York-style pizzas, as well as square, grandma-style pies. They;ll also serve a selection of wings, salads, milkshakes, soft serve ice cream, and local craft beverages, as well as plenty of vegan, vegetarian, and gluten-free varieties.
Odie's Pizza is expected to open by year's end at 121 North Cleveland Street in San Diego's North County city of Oceanside. For more information, follow Odie's Pizza on Instagram.
