Alchemy is the brainchild of Eduardo Cortes and Juan Saad-Quintana, previously known for their Mexican seafood spot Barracruda in Barrio Logan, and chef Marcus Twilegar, a South Bay native with ties to Palmys in Pacific Beach and Parq Nightclub in Downtown San Diego. The restaurant has officially opened for lunch, with dinner and weekend brunch expected to launch soon. Nestled beneath the base of the Coronado Bridge, the mostly outdoor restaurant shares its space with Hotel Narcissus, a boutique property featuring six guest rooms.
At Alchemy, lunch is currently served from a walk-up kitchen window. For dinner, guests can enjoy full-service dining in the hotel’s courtyard, an atmospheric space adorned with works by local artists, including pieces by the acclaimed De La Torre brothers. Complementing the cuisine is a selection of local wines and imaginative low-ABV cocktails, including the Hexy Colada punchbowl, a blend of coconut cream, guava, pineapple, and citrus.
The menu showcases Mexican-inspired dishes, such as Camarón Zarandeado Adobo marinated wild shrimp with pineapple salsa verde; Hiramasa Crudo with habanero, pomegranate salsa matcha, crispy leaks, and pickled fresnos; Chicken Mole Bao Bao with queso fresco, jocoque cream, chicharron, and black sesame; Oxtail Tetela with queso chihuahua, tlaquepaque salsa, and hand-pressed blue corn masa; Hand Rolled Ancho Pasta with wild mushrooms, pancetta, and umami cream; and Aguachile Negro with charcoal seared ribeye, recado negro spice paste, blistered tomatoes, and chile toreado crema.
