After over a year and a half in development, Mamma Mia is ready to open in the space formerly occupied by Grossmont Cleaners, located in the retail plaza that also houses a Denny's and Carnitas Uruapan on Spring Street. The concept is the brainchild of Giovanni Georgees, former operator of Gio's Fitness101, and is inspired by his Sicilian mother.
Mamma Mia blends classic Italian charm with modern convenience. The deli features a patio with red-and-white checked tablecloths and a stunning interior design inspired by Italian artistry. With burgundy walls, candle chandeliers, wine barrel sconces, and a Michelangelo-style ceiling featuring fresco paintings, the space exudes Old-World elegance.
Inside, customers will find a full-service market offering specialty Italian groceries, a beer cave, a gelato station, a wine bar, an espresso counter powered by a state-of-the-art Synchro espresso machine, and a deli counter stocked with premium meats, cheeses and prepared dishes. The atmosphere is completed with Italian music, family photos, and a mural featuring an iconic scene from The Godfather.
The deli menu is packed with specialty sandwiches. Signature offerings include The MammaMia with mortadella, pistachio cream, stracciatella cheese, and pistachio crumbles; The Godfather with prosciutto, fig jam, arugula, grilled zucchini, and sun-dried tomatoes; and The Mambo Italiano with cappicolla, prosciutto, salami, provolone, lettuce, tomato, and Italian dressing.
Mamma Mia Italian Deli & Market will open its doors on December 6 at 4231 Spring Street in San Diego's East County city of La Mesa. For more information, follow Mamma Mia Market & Sicilian Deli on Instagram.
