Saltwater Surf & Turf Restaurant Ending Run In San Diego's Gaslamp Quarter

After nearly five years of serving in San Diego's Gaslamp Quarter, Saltwater Seafood & Steak will close its doors, making way for a new Italian restaurant concept called Romanissimo.

The journey of Saltwater began in fall 2019, when Sicilian-born chefs and restaurateurs Vincenzo Loverso and Alessandro Minutella took over the space formerly occupied by Blue Point Coastal Cuisine, a staple of the Cohn Restaurant Group for 24 years. Loverso, a seasoned San Diego restaurateur, boasts ownership stakes in local favorites like Greystone The Steakhouse, Osetra The Fishhouse, Osteria Panevino, The Butcher’s Cut, Vincenzo’s in Little Italy, and others through various partnerships. Under the San Diego Dining Group, Loverso and Minutella opened Saltwater in early 2020, transforming the historic Blue Point location into a destination for seafood and steaks.

Saltwater will serve its final meals on Monday, January 6, before closing its doors for an extensive redesign. The space will be transformed into Romanissimo Cucina Italiana, a new Italian dining concept set to debut later this year. The menu will spotlight traditional Roman-style gastronomy, offering a regional Italian culinary experience complemented by a full bar. The new concept is expected to bear similarities to Roman Wolves, a popular Italian eatery located in Little Italy from the same restaurant group.

Saltwater is located at 565 Fifth Avenue in San Diego’s Gaslamp Quarter. For updates, visit saltwatersandiego.com.
