Alaska Airlines To Open Massive 13,000-Square-Foot Lounge At San Diego Airport

San Diego travelers will soon have another luxury spot to unwind before flights as Alaska Airlines is building a new lounge in Terminal 2 at San Diego International Airport.

The new Alaska Lounge will stretch over 13,000 square feet, making it one of the largest carrier-operated lounges at SAN. It will feature private work zones, locally inspired refreshments and fresh local bites, a full bar with signature cocktails, and a barista station for handcrafted espresso drinks. The design aims to reflect San Diego’s vibrant culture and provide a more spacious, elevated experience than what many flyers are used to. This announcement is part of Alaska Airlines’ broader push to upgrade its lounge network across the country, enhancing its premium travel experience as the airline continues to grow.

At present, Terminal 2 already has two airline lounges operated by United and Delta. Alaska’s new facility will be the third in that terminal, while Delta is expected to move its lounge into the newly redeveloped Terminal 1 once that project is complete. For travelers flying Alaska out of San Diego, the addition of this new space will offer a premium alternative with more comfort, more options for dining and drinks, and a quieter place to work or relax before flights.
Although Alaska is not the largest airline at San Diego International, it currently offers more nonstop destinations than any other carrier, with 45 routes including recent additions such as Phoenix, Denver, Chicago O’Hare, Washington D.C.’s Reagan National, and Medford, Oregon. The new lounge is seen as both a reflection of the airline’s growing footprint in San Diego and a way to attract and retain frequent flyers who value premium amenities.

Construction is expected to start in 2027, with the lounge debuting in 2028 as part of the airport’s ongoing expansion and modernization. Once open, it will mark a major milestone for Alaska Airlines in Southern California, providing travelers with a new benchmark in comfort and service at San Diego International.
