Bruster’s Real Ice Cream Sets October 30 Opening For First San Diego Shop

East Coast favorite Bruster’s Real Ice Cream will officially make its long-awaited San Diego debut on October 30, opening its first local shop in La Mesa, just steps from Grossmont Center.

Founded in 1989 by Bruce Reed in Bridgewater, Pennsylvania, Bruster’s grew from a small-town scoop shop beside his father’s Jerry’s Curb Service into one of the country’s most beloved ice cream chains, known for its small-batch, handmade approach. Every Bruster’s location makes its ice cream fresh daily on-site, with over 150 signature recipes rotating through a menu of more than two dozen flavors available at any given time.

The new La Mesa location replaces a former Starbucks and will feature outdoor seating and a walk-up counter serving sundaes, milkshakes, banana splits, ice cream pies, and baked-to-order waffle cones and bowls. Guests can expect classics like Butter Pecan, Graham Central Station, and Chocolate Raspberry Truffle, alongside seasonal flavors and non-dairy options made with oat milk.

Bruster’s entry into the San Diego market has generated strong community anticipation since it was first announced earlier this year, with the La Mesa Chamber of Commerce welcoming the brand as a new member over the summer. The October 30 grand opening marks the first of what could be several Southern California locations, as Bruster’s continues its westward expansion from its Pennsylvania roots.

Bruster’s Real Ice Cream opens October 30 at 8497 Fletcher Parkway in La Mesa. For updates and full menu details, visit brusters.com
