Oggi’s Sports Brewhouse Pizza Closes Location In San Diego's Liberty Station After More Than Two Decades

After more than 20 years in business, the Oggi’s Sports Brewhouse Pizza location at within Liberty Station in San Diego’s Point Loma has closed.

The Liberty Station outpost had been part of the former Naval Training Center redevelopment and served as a neighborhood sports bar and family-friendly pizza restaurant for much of the site’s modern commercial life. No public announcement detailing the reason for the closure has been issued, and the company has not indicated whether the space will be reoccupied by another Oggi’s concept.

Oggi’s traces its roots back to 1991, when it originally opened as Stuft Pizza in Carmel Valley. Founded by George Hadjis and his brother John, the family-run business evolved during the 1990s into one of San Diego’s early brewpub pioneers, installing small-scale breweries inside its restaurants and later rebranding as Oggi’s, the Italian word for “today.” The concept became known for combining pizza, craft beer, and a sports-focused atmosphere at a time when the city’s brewing scene was still in its infancy.

At its height, Oggi’s operated more than 20 franchised locations across California, Arizona, and beyond, with several in San Diego County. The brand also forged high-profile sports partnerships over the years, serving as the official pizza of teams including the San Diego Chargers, San Diego Padres, and Anaheim Angels, and later collaborating with NFL Hall of Famer LaDainian Tomlinson on charitable initiatives and branded beers.

While Oggi’s once brewed beer on-site at multiple locations, most restaurants eventually shifted production to a central brewery in San Clemente, with the Carmel Mountain Ranch location remaining the only San Diego outpost still brewing in-house. Each Oggi’s restaurant operates as an independently owned franchise, leading to variations in longevity and operations from location to location.

The Liberty Station closure follows a broader contraction of legacy casual-dining and brewpub concepts across San Diego, as rising labor costs, changing dining habits, and increased competition reshape the local restaurant landscape. Other longtime tenants at Liberty Station have also turned over in recent years as the waterfront district continues to evolve.

As of now, Oggi’s continues to operate several locations in San Diego County and Southern California. No future plans for the former Liberty Station space have been announced. For more information, visit oggis.com.
