The restaurant shared the news in an emotional Instagram post, revealing that July 3, 2026 will be its final day of service.
"After 16 incredible years, it is with heavy hearts that we announce the permanent closure of Loving Hut Mira Mesa," the restaurant wrote. "This restaurant has been so much more than just a business - it has been a place filled with memories, laughter, friendships, and an amazing community."
Located at 9928 Mira Mesa Boulevard, the restaurant thanked customers, employees, and supporters for helping build what it described as an incredible community over the past 16 years.
"We would love to see you before we close," the owners wrote. "Stop by, say hello, and share one last meal or memory with us."
The restaurant is also asking guests to redeem any outstanding gift cards and loyalty points before its final day of business.
The closure follows the recent announcement that Loving Hut's North Park location would permanently shutter after its own 16-year run, bringing an end to the chain's presence in San Diego County.
Part of an international franchise with hundreds of locations worldwide, Loving Hut became known locally for its entirely plant-based menu of vegan Asian comfort food, noodle dishes, curries, soups, spring rolls, mock meats, and rice plates. Long before vegan dining became mainstream, both San Diego locations developed loyal followings among vegans, vegetarians, and omnivores alike seeking affordable, flavorful plant-based meals.
Like its former North Park counterpart, the Mira Mesa restaurant positioned itself as more than simply a place to eat, promoting compassionate, environmentally conscious dining while serving as a gathering place for San Diego's vegan community.
The Loving Hut brand has also drawn attention over the years because of its connection to Supreme Master Ching Hai, the spiritual leader behind the international restaurant chain. Media outlets including VICE, Deutsche Welle, and the San Francisco Examiner have examined the franchise's ties to Ching Hai and her Quan Yin Method movement.
Some critics and former members have described the organization as cult-like, while others characterize it as an unconventional but largely peaceful spiritual movement centered on veganism, meditation, and environmental advocacy. For most San Diego diners, however, Loving Hut was known simply as a neighborhood restaurant serving affordable vegan comfort food with a mission-driven philosophy.
The closure also continues a difficult period for San Diego's dedicated plant-based restaurant scene. Over the past year, several vegan-focused businesses have either closed, downsized, or shifted away from fully vegan concepts as operators continue grappling with rising labor costs, inflation, higher operating expenses, and increasingly cautious consumer spending.
Earlier this year, University Heights vegan concepts Dreamboat Diner and Vulture announced they would close less than a year after opening, citing financial challenges. Longtime vegetarian and vegan favorite Grains also drew criticism after adding meat to its menu for the first time in years, while San Diego-born Plant Power Fast Food has scaled back operations following the closure of several locations. While vegan dishes have become commonplace on restaurant menus across San Diego, the recent wave of closures suggests that operating a restaurant built entirely around plant-based dining has become increasingly difficult in today's restaurant economy.
For many longtime customers, however, Loving Hut represented far more than another vegan restaurant. It was a familiar neighborhood gathering place where friendships were formed, communities grew, and countless meals were shared over more than a decade and a half.
"From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for being part of our journey," the restaurant wrote. "Thank you for your support, your kindness, and for allowing us to serve this wonderful community for the past 16 years. We will carry these memories with us forever."
