The new venue will celebrate its debut with a three-day grand opening event running Friday, June 5 through Sunday, June 7 at Mission Bay Golf Course in Pacific Beach. To kick off the festivities, Harland is offering all draft beers and hot dogs for just $5 throughout the weekend, along with live music from local surf-rock favorites The Surf Birdz on Friday from 4 to 7pm.
Located inside the brand-new clubhouse facility at Mission Bay Golf Course, the project represents another major step in Harland Brewing's transformation from a craft brewery into a diversified hospitality brand. While Harland built its reputation on award-winning beer, the company has increasingly expanded into food, events, and destination-driven gathering spaces, including its recently opened full-service restaurant in 4S Ranch and other hospitality-focused concepts throughout San Diego County.
The Mission Bay project gives Harland a particularly distinctive backdrop. The brewery is taking over operations of a newly constructed 2,000-square-foot restaurant and taproom overlooking the city's only night-lit golf course. After being selected by the City of San Diego through a competitive proposal process, Harland transformed the venue into "The Clubhouse," a bright indoor-outdoor gathering space featuring floor-to-ceiling windows, accordion doors opening onto an expansive patio, an outdoor bar, and a unique island event space surrounded by water. Harland has also repurposed a longtime tiki hut near the driving range into a satellite bar serving drinks and snacks during busy periods. The venue features a golf-course-facing patio designed to accommodate dining, live music, family-friendly events, and community gatherings.
Under a recently approved 10-year lease agreement with the City of San Diego, Harland will operate all food and beverage service at the clubhouse while the city continues managing the golf course, driving range, and practice facilities. The lease is expected to generate significant new revenue for the city's Golf Enterprise Fund while adding an entirely new social destination to one of San Diego's most historic municipal golf facilities.
Founded in 2018 by Jeff Hansson and Anthony Levas, Harland has grown from a single brewery into one of San Diego's most recognizable craft beer brands. The company currently operates locations in South Park, Bay Park, Scripps Ranch, 4S Ranch, and now Mission Bay.
Beer lovers can expect 10 taps dedicated exclusively to Harland's core, seasonal and specialty brews, including the limited-release "Color Form" West Coast IPA, a collaboration with Burgeon Beer Co. featuring tropical and citrus-forward hop character. Harland is also extending its popular weekday special to Mission Bay, offering guests a burger or chicken sandwich, fries and a beer for $20.
The Mission Bay location reflects a broader shift occurring across the craft beer industry, where breweries increasingly rely on food, events, and hospitality experiences to complement beer sales. Harland executives have described the Mission Bay project as an opportunity to create a community gathering place that appeals not only to golfers but also to local residents, families, sports teams, and visitors looking for a casual waterfront-adjacent dining experience. The company plans to host live music, DJs, special events, and tournament gatherings while maintaining a family-friendly atmosphere.
Mission Bay Golf Course itself occupies a unique place in San Diego history. Operated by the city's Parks and Recreation Department, the 18-hole executive course spans 46 acres and remains the only golf facility in San Diego County offering nighttime play. The course is also known as the site where Tiger Woods captured a Junior World title during his youth.
The clubhouse is expected to serve breakfast, lunch, dinner, coffee, beer, wine, and cocktails, with menu items ranging from breakfast burritos and sandwiches to Harland favorites such as smash burgers and elevated casual fare developed under the direction of culinary leader Scott Cannon. The breakfast menu includes a Bodega Breakfast Sandwich with egg, Canadian bacon, American cheese, salsa verde and chipotle mayo; breakfast burritos loaded with eggs, bacon or sausage, hash browns and cheese; sausage croissants; overnight oats; and rotating fresh-baked pastries.
For lunch and dinner, guests can choose from Harland's signature Smash Burger, Fried Chicken Sandwich, beer-battered fish tacos, a Gochujang BBQ Pulled Pork Sandwich, Pork Birria Sandwich, Pastrami Melt, Turkey Club, poke bowls, chicken tenders, hot dogs, salads, pretzels, fried pickles and other elevated golf-course fare. The venue's deli-inspired sandwich program represents a new culinary direction for Harland while retaining popular menu items from its existing locations.Beer lovers can expect 10 taps dedicated exclusively to Harland's core, seasonal and specialty brews, including the limited-release "Color Form" West Coast IPA, a collaboration with Burgeon Beer Co. featuring tropical and citrus-forward hop character.
