"Every time you spend money, you're casting a vote for the kind of world you want."~Anna Lappe

Election Day is rapidly approaching.  Whether you're a liberal or conservative, Republican or Democrat, Klingon or Romulan, it doesn't matter after a few drinks and some tasty grub, and a spirited election year means election cocktails and restaurants are casting their vote for either red or blue...or something in-between with these election-themed specials at some of your favorite San Diego spots.

Downtown's newest watering hole, The Commons, known for its signature chicken wings, is offering $12 Right Wing and Left Wing specials. The Right Wing special is the 5-piece Buffalo wings and the Left Wing special is the 5-piece Spicy Bleu wings, each are paired with Election cocktails listed below:

1 1/2 oz Peach Vodka
Soda Water
Cranberry Juice
(Color Red)

1 1/4 oz Blueberry Vodka
1/2 oz Blue Curaçao Liqueur
Soda Water
Splash of Sprite
(Color Blue)

At the Grant Grill in San Diego, inside the US GRANT Hotel where 14 U.S. Presidents have stayed, Mixologist Jeff Josenhans has created the Off the Record cocktail with Kona Coffee Bean Infused High West Double Rye Whiskey from Utah to represent GOP hopeful Mitt Romney and Macadamia Nut Liqueur to represent President Obama. Finished with a Macadamia Nut Rim and Coffee Bean Garnish, the drink is served on the rocks.

Located in the Hillcrest community, The Range Kitchen & Cocktails is offering $5 Donkey Punch, Elephant Elixirs and Red Money Shots on Election Day. Those who wish to pair their election-themed beverages with bites can indulge in half-off Freedom Fries and Swing State Sliders.

Searsucker, located in downtown San Diego and helmed by Top Chef finalist Brian Malarkey is know for its approachable and unpretentious cuisine. The below cocktail comes from Pick & Rocks Cocktails, the in-house mixology firm that provides the cocktail menus and programs for all of five Brian's restaurants. Ever changing, flip flopping, but always optimistic, Searsucker will be offering the Pundit's Punch made with Rum, Ginger, Lemon, and Melon as of today…but tomorrow could be made with something new.
