The new Bake Sale Bakery, located at 815 F St. in the heart of East Village, will introduce a series of baking classes covering a variety of topics and techniques taught by owner and operator, Terryl Gavre (Banker's Hill Bar, Cafe 222), and head baker Kathleen Shen. “BAKE!” will debut from 6 to 8:30pm on Wednesday, Oct. 15. The class will allow bakers of all levels to join Gavre and/or Shen to learn recipes, instructions and professional tips in a fun and friendly environment.
“BAKE!” will be priced at $75 per person and will include all of the ingredients and take-away goodies. The class will run from 6 to 8:30pm on select dates and the upcoming schedule currently includes:
The Great Pumpkin – Wednesday, Oct. 15
Students will learn how to create classic holiday pumpkin dishes such as pies, cheesecakes, bars and breads just in time for Halloween and Thanksgiving.
Easy as Pie? – Tuesday, Nov. 4
Not many everyday bakers believe in the phrase, “easy as pie.” This class will allow bakers the opportunity to learn the basics of preparing and rolling out dough, baking single-and double-crusted pies, mastering the lattice-top pie and creating cream and hand pies on Bake Sale’s marble slab table.
Jam Session – Tuesday, Nov. 18
This class will focus on easy and delicious jams and chutneys perfect for an upcoming holiday meal or gift. Students will learn tips on how to preserve jams using the hot-water process, methods for refrigeration and freezing and which varieties to pair with savory meats and cheeses.
Holiday Cookie Workshop – Tuesday, Dec. 2
Bake Sale will offer a jump-start on the season with a class dedicated to holiday-inspired cookies. Students will learn recipes and techniques for classic favorites, simple decorating tips and how to store and freeze cookies to plan ahead for big upcoming parties or gift solutions.
Bake Sale is located at 815 F St., open daily from 7:30am to 3pm, and offers a wide variety of sweet and savory baked goods, including a selection of morning pastries, artisan sandwiches and sweet desserts.
