Local Habit, Hillcrest’s recently reinvented Cali-Creole eatery that re-opened at the end of March, kicks off its new Sunday jazz brunch today. Like the lunch and dinner menu, brunch will feature local SoCal farm-to-table cuisine inspired by Louisiana Creole and Cajun recipes and will offer a range of traditional New Orleans-influenced craft cocktails and local beers to compliment the food.
“We were really looking to bring something to San Diego that people who have spent time in the South could appreciate, while bringing in all these amazing ingredients from Southern California,” said consulting chef Nick Brune. “Incorporating my Louisiana background and cuisine of that region with local ingredients resulted in a menu that I love, and hopefully is loved by both San Diegans and travelers as well.”
Local Habit’s Sunday brunch will feature live jazz starting Sunday April 12, and every first and third Sunday from 11am to 2pm starting in May with Tori Roze and the Hot Mess Trio. Jazz will set the mood as patrons munch on distinct dishes like crispy fried chicken and French toast, eggs with smoky traditional Creole red beans and rice, fluffy and buttery Southern biscuits and authentic light and airy beignets topped with powdered sugar and coffee crème anglaise, among other brunch items. Brunch isn’t brunch without drinks, and there’s no shortage with specials including $14 bottomless mimosas, $10 Creole Bloody Marys, Milk Punch and a Gin Fizz, and $6.50 for a 5/50 shot of St. George Absinthe, NOLA Coffee and Fernet.
In addition to Sunday brunch, Local Habit has launched a new Happy Hour menu available on Mon., Tue., Thu. and Fri. from 4 to 6pm, and late night from 10pm to midnight. The menu includes $8 craft cocktails, $1 off beer and wine and weekly specials including $5 red beans and rice on Mondays, “Fat Tuesday” Absinthe and Oysters ($1.25 oysters and $5.50 St. George Absinthe), Rochambeau (aka “Rock, Paper, Scissors”) Wednesday Happy Hour from 4 to 7pm (guest vs. server for $1 off drinks) and $10 fried chicken on Fridays.
Local Habit is located at 3827 5th Avenue in Hillcrest. Visit mylocalhabit.com for more information.
