Waypoint Public's Executive Chef Rich Sweeney, who was a contender on Season 5 of Bravo's Top Chef, will again appear on the popular culinary competition, but this time, he won't be doing any cooking. Sweeney's wedding to his longtime partner Steve Farrow will be a central part of the January 8 episode of Top Chef California, officiated by none other than the program's host and judge Padma Lakshmi and catered by the cheftestants, including former San Diego chef Chad White.

The wedding between Sweeney and Farrow took place along with 24 other same-sex couples in Palm Springs, CA. To celebrate the airing of his wedding, Chef Sweeney will air the program, entitled "Big Gay Wedding", on the screens at Waypoint Public in North Park.

San Diego’s debut on Top Chef California will air the following week, on Thursday, January 14, at 10pm. This season's contestants will continue their California road trip and head to America's Finest City where they will attempt to cook-up high-end fish tacos for renowned Mexican Chef Javier Plascencia, known for his San Diego restaurants Bracero Cocina de Raiz and Romesco Mexiterranean. Then Padma Lakshmi, Tom Colicchio, Richard Blais and Emeril Lagasse will embrace the craft beer movement San Diego is know for by offering a toast with a twist to the remaining chefs with their own hand-crafted microbrews. For the Elimination Challenge at Blais’ Juniper and Ivy, the chefs will have to serve up a mouthwatering dish to complement the judges' ale.
