Chef Aaron Obregon Joins Culinary Team At Coronado Island Marriott Resort & Spa

January 12, 2017

Chef Aaron Obregon, who most recently launched North Park's Beerfish as Executive Chef, has taken a position as Culinary Supervisor at Coronado Island Marriott Resort & Spa and will be tasked with overseeing Current & Tides Restaurant + Lounge.

Before launching Beerfish in North Park in 2016, Aaron Obregon lead the kitchen at Bay Park Fish Company and, before that, worked in the kitchen at Celebrity Chef Keegan Gerhard's now-defunct D Bar in Hillcrest. Chef Aaron graduated from Le Cordon Bleu College of Culinary Arts in Pasadena California, and immediately moved to Mexico City to start his profesional career as a chef. He worked at a few restaurants there, including Biko - a top 50 restaurant in the world - and eventually opened his own seafood restaurant with fellow chefs in Mexico City. He also worked under Chef Flor Franco at her Indulge Contemporary Catering company and at the now-defunct Zarco Comida de Baja. Chef Aaron was recently nominated as one of the Top 5 Chefs of 2016 by San Diego CityBeat.

Obregon is joining Coronado Island Marriott Resort & Spa as a Culinary Supervisor and, along with the resort's Executive Chef Michael Poompan, will be overseeing dining offerings in all of the hotel’s outlets and implementing new menus in the property’s restaurants Current and Tides. He will also help lead the restaurants through a transition that focuses on local coastal cuisine, Baja flavors and San Diego farms. Expect a stronger Baja influence on both the food and wine menus.
