Bird Rock Coffee Roasters, which currently has three thriving locations in San Diego, has been purchased by PT's Coffee Roasting Co. of Topeka, Kansas, who will take over leadership of the company effective immediately.
Recognized by Roast Magazine as Micro Roaster of the Year in 2012, a national once-in-a-lifetime award, Bird Rock Coffee Roasters has been at the forefront of putting premiere coffee on the map in San Diego since opening it's original location on La Jolla Boulevard in Bird Rock over a decade ago in 2006. Owner Chuck Patton first started roasting in 2001 with a do-it-yourself home coffee roaster, a fateful gift from his wife Elke.

"We are thrilled to partner with PT’s Coffee Roasting Co., it will give us the opportunity to expand the Bird Rock brand beyond San Diego and continue developing our Direct Trade programs and partner farms," explained Bird Rock Coffee Roasters founder Chuck Patton.
PT's Coffee Roasting, who was named Coffee Roaster of the Year in 2009 by Roast Magazine, plans to further develop the retail and wholesale efforts of the Bird Rock Coffee Roasters brand, intending to open more San Diego and northern California location in the future. Jeff Taylor, Co-Founder and CEO of PT’s Coffee, will be relocating to San Diego to lead the team. There he will work with Bird Rock founder Chuck Patton, who will take on the role of Head Coffee Buyer for both companies. Taylor and Patton have known each other for nearly 10 years, working side-by-side in the industry. The two companies found common ground in their similar Direct Trade philosophies, working toward the goal of creating the highest-quality coffee possible from origin to cup.

PT’s Coffee Roasting Co. began in 1993 as a single coffee shop in Topeka, Kansas. An intense passion for coffee led the team to venture into roasting in 1997. Now, nearing 25 years later, their group of explorers is still committed to sourcing, roasting, and drinking the best coffees in the world.
