Authentic Mexican Sandwich Truck Rolls Into San Diego's Sherman Heights | Corazon De Torta Debuts On Cinco De Mayo

April 26, 2017

Aiming to offer Mexican-grandma-style home cooking, Corazon de Torta is a new food truck debuting in San Diego's Sherman Heights neighborhood starting this Cinco de Mayo, offering an authentic menu of stewed and braised meat tortas, tacos, and burritos.

Owned by Tony Ley, who was featured touring Anthony Bourdain around Tijuana on the Baja episode of No Reservations, Corazon de Torta will be sited in the parking lot for Tony's Muffler Shop at 2490 Commercial Street in Sherman Heights. The area has been redesigned to include seating and a mural from hip border artist Panca.

The eatery will present "authentic abuelita Mexican cooking," with a menu from Chef Joe Figueroa,  who also runs the popular La Carmelita food truck at Telefónica Gastro Park in Tijuana. Based around guisados - stewed and braised meats - the menu will feature options like short rib in Guajillo sauce, pork belly in tomatillo with nopales, and beef & pork albondigas meatballs in chipotle, as well as a veggie option with potato, cotilla cheese & kale "tortilla" fried croquet balls, and a vegan option with cauliflower mole, all which can be made into a torta, taco or burrito. There will also be soft drink options like aguas frescas with real fruit and Mexican sodas.
Starting on Friday, May 5, Corazon de Torta will be open Sunday to Wednesday from 11am-8pm and Friday & Saturday from 11am to 11pm. For more information on visit corazondetorta.com.
